Armadillo: the cart that is not only a cart

THE CENTRAL COMPOSITE CORE (C3) AND OUTFITTING SYSTEM

The Central Composite Core (C3) of the Armadillo is a concept that relies on a composite monocoque body made of polyamide (or kevlar), glass (or carbon) fibres and epoxy resin on wich all the “transformation outfittings” are attached to.

Thanks to this concept it is possible to have a cart for every environment: many carts on the market can be used also as bike trailers (or vice versa) but no one can be at the same time a sled, a small boat, a bike trailer, a cart and a backpack 

 

DE-ENGINEERING AND THE OPEN SOURCE HARDWARE

What do we mean with “de-enginieering”? We simply mean that the Armdillo Carts have to be designed so that:

1. it is possible to build and/or repair them using as common parts  and components as possible (e.g. commercial wheels for load carts or commercial alloy that may be found in any DIY shop);
2. as few and as normal tools as possible have to be used to build and/or repair them (e.g. drill, screwdrivers, metal saw, etc.)

The designs and projects of the Armadillos are open source so that everyone can build its own Armadillo and eventually can bolg its personal improvements and outfittings on this site.

 

ELECTRONIC GADGETS

We like a lot electronic gadgets when we are out in the wilderness: everything is designed using Open Source Hardware like the Arduino platform and the code is open as the rest of this project.

 

ARMADILLO MODELS

Here are the Armadillo Carts, you can:

1. buy one by us if you are lazy, if you don’t have enough DIY skills or simply if you don’t have enough time to build it by yourself;
2. build one by yourself (only for NON COMMERCIAL USE, see the Creative Commons License applied to the Armadillo) downloading the free construction plans, instructions and tricks.
